The Republic of Croatia is located in south-eastern Europe and is bordered by Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro. The population stands at an estimated 4.5 million in 2010, of whom 18.0% are aged 65 or over. Croatia is on track for EU accession by 2011 following the arrest of the war crimes suspect General Ante Gotovina.
