LifeScan enhanced its blood glucose monitoring line during 2007 with the launch of the OneTouch UltraMini/UltraEasy Colours device, and OneTouch Select meter.
LifeScan forms part of Johnson & Johnson’s Diabetes Care franchise, which was expanded in February 2006 through the acquisition of Animas, an insulin delivery company. Following the transaction, Animas operates as a stand-alone entity reporting through LifeScan. Animas has its headquarters, R&D and manufacturing operations in West Chester, Pennsylvania, US. The Animas acquisition gave LifeScan immediate entry into the fast-growing insulin delivery pump market. The combination of Animas' insulin delivery systems and LifeScan's glucose monitoring systems allow the company to offer more comprehensive disease management solutions for patients. Indeed, the launch of OneTouch Ping Glucose Management System in August 2008 marked the first integrated product from the two companies. Glucose Ping is claimed to be the first full-feature insulin pump that wirelessly communicates with a blood glucose meter-remote.
The Diabetes Care franchise forms part of Johnson & Johnson’s Comprehensive Care Group, which also includes Cordis, Vision Care and Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics.
