In June 2006, Coloplast purchased Mentor’s urology unit, which enabled it to expand its existing continence care portfolio and gain new products that address general and surgical urology. This acquisition also moved Coloplast to the leading position in the urology and continence care market segments in which it participates. Through the acquisition, Coloplast also gained Mills Biopharmaceuticals, Mentor’s brachytherapy division, but it sold this business to Core Oncology in June 2007.

In April 2007, Coloplast sold its Breast Care unit, which manufactured external breast forms and post-mastectomy lingerie and swimwear, as part of its strategy to focus on its Ostomy, Urology, Continence, and Wound and Skin Care units.

To further enhance its urology portfolio, Coloplast acquired assets related to the Levera Male Incontinence Therapy - a sling therapy designed to address symptoms of male stress urinary incontinence (SUI) - from Caldera Medical in November 2007.

More recently, Coloplast expanded its urology portfolio and expanded its geographic coverage in the US with the acquisition of Mpathy Medical Devices, a developer of less invasive surgical solutions for the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.

In March 2011, Coloplast completed the transfer of the majority of production from Denmark to lower-cost Hungary and China. Approximately 85% of the company’s products are now produced in Hungary and China.

Coloplast markets and sells its products and services globally. The majority of its revenue is generated in Europe, which accounted for 73% of the company’s DKr10,172 million of total sales in fiscal 2011. At the end of September 2011, Coloplast employed more than 7,350 people.

Coloplast’s major shareholders are members of the Louis-Hansen family, which hold approximately 31% of the share capital and 55% of the votes in Coloplast.
