LONDON, March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Alveolus, Inc. announced the successful implantation of the first AERO(TM) tracheobronchial stent technology system in the United Kingdom, a significant milestone for the company as it begins commercializing the product throughout Europe.
"This first implant in the UK is a significant achievement for Alveolus," said Eric Mangiardi, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alveolus. "We are hopeful that the AERO(TM) system will become the preferred treatment option for physicians throughout the UK and Europe for both malignant and benign obstructive pulmonary diseases."
"The advantages of the AERO stent were immediately apparent when first used -- it was deployed with ease and with great accuracy under direct bronchoscopic vision and without the need for a general anesthetic. In my opinion, it has the potential to improve the management of malignant airway obstruction and now merits in depth clinical evaluation," said Jeremy George, M.D., Middlesex Hospital, London.
The AERO(TM) stent system received CE Mark approval in October 2004.
